What is Tui na? 

Tui na is a hands-on body treatment that uses Chinese Taoist and martial arts principles in an effort to bring the eight principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) into balance. The practitioner may brush, knead, roll/press, and rub the areas between each of the joints, known as the eight gates, to attempt to open the body's defensive (wei) chi and get the energy moving in the meridians and the muscles.[3] The practitioner can then use range of motion, traction, and massage, with the stimulation of acupressure points. These techniques are claimed to aid in the treatment of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as many non-musculoskeletal conditions.

It is vigorous, and can be very deep or very light depending on what is needed. Tui-na is usually performed with the client fully dressed and a sheet draped over the areas being worked.

Tuina techniques work. Tui-na is Chinese massage and physical therapy.  It can ease discomfort, improve function, relax or energize depending on which is needed.

Reduce stress:
 Taking the time to breathe and have the muscles smoothed throughout the body leaves you feeling relaxed, focused and can make even the toughest day melt away. We incorporate the brain in each session with proven techniques in breathing to help you relax even deeper. 

Reduce Pain:
   Those tight little knots in the neck and shoulders can be soothed and removed leaving you with a freedom of movement you may not have felt for a long time. Irritated muscles from an injury? Those need special attention to release and return to normal function. Without the release of the muscle tensions the pain and reduced range of motion can become cronic and harder to correct. 

Regain Range of Motion:
Tight muscles shorten and give us a smaller range of motion. If left  in their shortened state, the surrounding muscles are affected too.. Addressing limited range of motion early can help restore normal range and prevent long term problems. The same goes for over stretched or over used muscles.

Our bodies are amazing and will adapt to a lot of different  situations, however they can only adapt for so long before they start to show us they are stressed and need attention.
